Have you thought about ways to combine learning in the STEM areas with your travel bucket list? There are many destinations throughout the world where you can learn more about the natural sciences and innovative uses of technology and engineering. If you are interested, we have a group of NSTA members traveling to Iceland, the land of ice and fire, in June to learn about the geology, biology, geothermal energy, and innovative approaches to sustainability, while immersed in Icelandic culture and experiencing the midnight sun of the summer solstice. Joyce Tugel and I will be facilitating the learning portions of our trip. My newest NSTA book, Uncovering Student Ideas in Earth and Environmental Science will be used during our trip to elicit and discuss our ideas about the natural phenomena we will encounter during the trip. We have a few more slots available for anyone interested in joining us on this special trip customized for K-12 educators and STEM leaders. It's a great opportunity to travel with your fellow science and STEM educators and visit a unique country. If you go to the link, there is another link where you click on your state. I read the original link several times and from what I understand, it is close to 5k not including air fare. I'm not sure what the amount of the grant would be but it seems like it was pretty substantial.
This is such a wonderful idea! I know that many people want to extend their knowledge about STEM, and being able to travel and do it at the same time is great! I hope to do this sometime in my future teaching career!
