Student Motivation for Classwork

As new teacher what is the best method to get students motivated to do their classwork? How can you get students to work at a quicker pace?

Yes, when you can offer students choices of activities and make sure the activities are meaningful, you will have more student participation. I searched "student motivation" in the Explore All Resources" button and there are many articles you might find helpful. Add them to your library or print them out so you can read them when you have time.

JaTerra, Learning should always be fun....and it is more apt to be so if the students are doing something meaningful with their hands.  Also, if there is something that has to be done but not very exciting, make sure you have a "carrot" at the end.  "As soon as we finish this, we'll .........(fill in the blank.)  Don't let the students set the pace for you.  You set it at a speed that keeps everything moving so you can get to the "good stuff!"  Make sure students understand WHY they are learning something.  Think about how you feel if you think something is just "busywork."  Give points for students doing/behaving the way you want them to behave and then play math or science bingo on Friday with winners getting some type of recognition.  Dr. T.
