About to start planning our annual Family Stem Night at our elementary school. What are some activities that you have done at your school that the families enjoyed and all ages could participate in?

Since there is limited time to teach science during the school day, I wanted to encourage science instruction in the home by means of fun family acitivies. Does anyone have any ideas on how they have been able to get families to participate in science activities at home? What are some easy science experiments/activities families can do that require minimum supplies/materials?

5 Great Ideas for Young Learners!
I enjoyed reading this article and getting ideas to implement in the classroom and even at home. I loved how the teacher started with talking about sponges and talked about how they are like sponges as well and take in lots of information. And started a conversation about what the children know about sponges. They were able to show their knowledge in many different ways and settings. They had checklist, flowcharts, sticky notes, small group, one on one, and large group opportunities to be able to learn new information and share what they know. Loved the different techniques used to implement science discourse as well. One idea that I liked a lot was while sitting in a circle they passed a ball and only the student holding the ball was allowed to talk. I also liked how the article pointed out that while it may seem like chaos in the classroom with everyone talking and doing different techniques, they are learning and being in charge of their learning, so allow a little chaos!
