I don't think it is a waste of time at all. I feel that there are so many different things that you can do with the interactive notebooks. It's a great way for students to reflect about their learning, and good for the teacher as well because you can use it as a formative assessment of the students knowledge on the concept they are learning about.

Maybe you could have students look at photographs or other pictures that show what the night sky looks like. You could do something with technology if you have access to Ipads. You could download a free app like night sky that allows you to see where the stars would be even if it is day time. This app shows and labels some constellations, planets, stars, and the sun. I agree I usually just search Pinterest for the science topic we are studying and add anchor chart. There are so many great and sometimes not so great ideas on how to create an anchor chart for the content. I pick a few that I like and add the information I want the kids to know. You definitely have to be cautious about what is out there and make sure it is correct.
