Thank you for this post! I am currently a preservice teacher and have noticed that it is difficult for teachers to include science in their classroom. I love all these ideas to include science in the clalssroom as I believe it is very important. Looking back on my academic career some of the most memorable moments in the classroom were all hands on science lessons so I will love to try some of th...

I love all the replies on this discussion! Science is an intimidating subject to teach to many teachers and I enjoyed reading through all these replies as it made me feel like I am not the only one who fears science lessons. I love all the advice on making lessons hands on and not just lecture based! I will love to implement the idea of having science experiments to be included in all if not most...

5 Great Lesson Plan
This article provides a great lesson on flowers that uses the five E’s model. What is great about this lesson is that it wants to stress the importance of how flowers how they are beautiful and most students know what they are but do not know where in a seeds life cycle a flower lands. Additionally, this article is great because it prepares you with information on what you will need to do prior to starting this unit. The article recommends what flowers are great to use for this experiment and gives advise on calling local businesses to provide low cost or free past due flowers. In the event that you cannot find flowers at low cost the article also provides information on how much the flowers may cost. This article is great as it provides very detailed instructions that you as an educator will need to take on a daily basis and even what you need to do leading up to the unit.

5 Great Lesson Plan
This is a great article that gives information regarding a lesson for elementary aged students on flowers. This is a great lesson as it incorporated English Languages Arts development. I also really appreciated that this lesson included the 5 E’s. This lesson is also very interesting and fun as it also provides a great technological element to it as students work with a digital microscope. The digital microscope is a good option as it allows the class to look at the images together. According to the article it also provides the class with the ability to be able to copy images and place on a word processor for easy labeling. According to the article there are a lot of options for affordable digital microscopes. In addition to providing various resources to find a digital microscope this article provides a very detailed lesson using the 5 E’s and the importance of each step. The article even provides examples of books you may want to read to the students to start the unit and get the students engaged and interested in learning about flowers and how they grow.

5 Great Lesson Tool
This is a great article to get information regarding a great resource that can be used in your classroom if you are working on a unit on plants and flowers. This article provides you with information on a website that will link you to many different types of flowers and plants that are grow locally. I love that the website provides a list of plants and flowers that grow near the students because learning about things that are relevant to them is a great motivator for the students. This article also states that there is great data collection sheet that is provided for you and your classroom to be able to collect data on the plants and flowers you chose to observe. I really like this option as it is a great way to practice data collection and the sheet can be used to build on future lessons and experiments that will require data collection.
