I agree with the comments made by everyone! I too was wide eyed when I examined more deeply about issues such as the Great Garbage Patch in the Pacific. I was able to include this in my Ecology Unit last year. It only took 2 periods before students were hit hard on these issues. I showed them a video of the Great Garbage Patch and had them do more in depth research on their own about it (just ...

Because of all of the sharing of such awesome, creative ideas, I've planned to teach the cell organelles by using the 3D Venn Diagram and the gel in plastic bag this year. I think that these two activities will definitely allow me to teach these concepts in the time that I have left. The students will also be able to learn about the cell parts interactively, which they will love!

I agree with everyone's comments and concerns, as well as questions. I too find that my 7th grade Life Science students struggle with critical thinking skills and inquiry type learning tasks. However, depending on the questions asked, and the patience of the teacher (I've had to experience this...haha), students will slowly begin to understand the process. Their responses become more substantia...

5 Chemical Reactions
Looking for a great resource that will help with lesson planning? The Chemcial Reacitons Sciguide is filled with great ideas that will help to incorporate a lot of what the Chemcial Reactions Scipack has to offer. The Sciguide helps to put the information that was learned from the scipack into perspective by sharing interactives, activites and supplemental information from outside resources and websites that further help in comprehension of material and concepts such as types of reactions, speed of reactions, products and reactants.

5 Nutrition Sciguide Review
I really enjoyed going through the tons of resources available in this sciguide. It was valuable in that not only did it provide endless ideas and lessons that involved Nutrition directly but it also provided ideas in food as an energy source. This sciguide was useful to me as I teach 7th grade Life Science and found that many of the lessons and resources in this sciguide could easily be used and/or adapted for use in the Life Sciences. One particular lesson involved photosynthesis. The laboratory that was described in this sciguide was easy to understand, cost effective and did not require too much preparation. Most importantly it demonstrates a process (photosynthesis) that can now be understood much easier with the use of this demo/lab. Easy to navigate, tons of ideas, includes interdisciplinary resource ideas as well.

5 Cells & Chemical Reactions Sciguide
The Cells and Chemical Reactions Sciguide is a conglomerate of valuable resources! I found the Cells and Chemical Reactions Scipack VERY informative but somewhat challenging when it came to developing lesson plans. However, the resources provided in the sciguide as a "now what can I do to teach these concepts?" avenue was chock full of ideas, hands-on activities as well as articles that are student friendly, very relevant to content and al l play al part of scaffolding of this content. I gained much insight and ideas in how to incorporate the tons of information that was learned/reviewed in the partner scipack into my lessons in a fun and student friendly way, all thanks to this awesome resource!
