Tue Mar 10, 2015 3:12 PM in Bloom's Taxonomy
Hello there, As a pre-service teacher, this is the first time I see Bloom's Taxonomy as a clog rather than a hierarchy and it makes a lot of sense. I have very little to no experience (the only experience I have is the required field hours), but I have noticed that the Bloom's pyramid can be misleading. I understand that creating is the most advanced level, yet it is the smallest in the pyramid...

Hi Brittney, Ashmara is right, science is rarely seen being taught by itself in the classroom. I believe that since the students are not too exposed to science, as you said, you must take into consideration the preconceptions that the students might have about the science concept you are going to teach. Also, be very aware of the background knowledge they have on that concept. You might have to...

Hi everyone, I am a college student and I hope to start my internship in the fall. This is such a great forum because I believe that every teacher will go through this at some point of their teaching career. I find it interesting to see that everyone stated more or less the same response, "just let the student know that you do not know." Having students research the questions with the help of t...

5 Collection Review: Matter
The collection has seven articles that all connect very well. They are all related to the topic of matter, yet can be used for different grade levels from elementary to middle school. For example, the article Teaching Through Trade Books: What’s the Matter? is targeting the younger students and the article Stringy Chemistry and States of Matter is targeting the older students. The collection has plenty of articles that can be modified for any grade level. It even provides a lesson plan in the 5E format. This lesson is found in the The Great Viscosity Race: Using the 5E Model to Make Connections Between Properties of Matter and Viscosity article and even makes a connection between the concept of matter to viscosity. Overall, it is a very useful collection for teachers who are teaching the concept of matter to their students.

5 Species relationships review
This collection provides great resources that focus on the relationship of species. The articles are all interconnected. They deal with organisms and how they connect with others. Also, the articles contain the importance of plants to the animals that eat them and how this affects the food chain. Some of the articles focus on the effect organisms can have when plants stop growing. This collection provides activities teachers can use with students that can provide that seem very fun and can provide students with an idea of the importance of the relationships between species. The collection contains a scipack that comes in handy to teachers. It allows the teachers to understand the concept well in order to teach it confidently to the student. Also the scipack focuses on coral reefs. Since the scipack focuses on organisms underwater, the teacher can use it to help student understand that all species are interconnected even those underwater. Overall, this is a great collection that will allow teachers to teach species relationship with ease in a fun and well informed way.
