Douglas Hynoski

I have been employed in the Toms River Regional Schools since 2001 after many years in the business world. I returned back to school to obtain my teaching certification at New Jersey City University and received my NJ Teaching Certificate in K-8 Elementary Education in 2003. I have taught one year of 6th grade, 12 at the 5th grade level and most recently 4th grade. I enjoy teaching Science and Social Studies. When not teaching I enjoy time with my family.

4 Using a Science Notebook
As my district transitions into the NGSS and I begin to utilize the 5E approach to teaching science the notebooks will allow me to see and understand the students thinking and tell me where I would need to spend additional time with my lessons. In addition as the article stated the notebooks will also allow my students to develop their writing skills as explained in the article. The article was informative and I look forward to implementing them in my classroom.

4 5E Instruction
Not being familiar to the 5E approach the article was very helpful in explaining the concept. My first concern was the amount of time that would be necessary in doing a lesson, but after reading my misconceptions were cleared and the Egg drop experiment was a good example of teaching utilizing the 5E approach.
