Torrey Wenger

After 20 years at a nature center (doing a lot of bird research), I jumped ship & became a science teacher. Thanks to the Woodrow Wilson Teaching Fellowship, going back to grad school was free ... only everything was crunched down into 1 hectic year. I'm trying to improve my practice every year (for instance, I'm also a member of the American Modeling Teachers Association). If nothing else, cool PD is fun. :-)

Look for opportunities offered by your state's department of natural resources (or equivalent). I also really like the annual conference put on by the Michigan Alliance of Environmental & Outdoor Educators; hopefully there's a similar group in your state. These options are probably less intensive but they're also less pricey. Good luck!
