I retired from teaching after 34 years at the elementary and middle school level. I currently am working on several projects related to science including the Anchorage Elementary Science Kit Updates and creating lessons for indigenous students in Alaska and Hawai'i.

One possiblitity would be to use a marble raceway. Have two raceways set up at different angles. Start marbles on the two raceways from the same height and see how far they puch a cup. I have done this with rulers that have a groove down the center and paper cups cut in half. Students can start to see pattens that can then be used to start looking at gravitaional potential energy.

When you have the students create their weather report it is important that they understand the the relationship between climate and weather. Living in Anchorage, AK., our normal for this time of year say that we should be in the low 20's during the day and the teens or even lower at night, with signifcantly more snow coverage. 4 Local to Gobal
This scipack provides a picture of our use of resources and the impacts of the use from the local to global perspective. It does a good job of outlining the impacts that have occured as the number of humans has increased over time. In addition it takes a broad look at the resources that we use to produce the energy and other materials that we use on a daily basis.

Using the Energy SciPack has been a great help as I have been working on our district's curriculm revision. It has broadened my understanding and helped me identify content that I want my 6th graders to understand.
