Jim McDonald

I am a Professor of Science Education at Central Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. I was raised in New Jersey and that is why I am a lifelong Yankee fan. I was an elementary teacher and Middle School teacher for 10 years in Byron and Concord, California. Honors: I was named Michigan Science Teachers Association College Teacher of the Year 2013. Online Schools Michigan named me one of the Top 25 education professors in Michigan for 2012. Teaching: I teach elementary science methods to elementary pre-service teachers. I also teach graduate courses . Involvements: I am the faculty advisor for the NSTA preservice chapter at CMU. I am also the Director of the Central Michigan GEMS Education Center which was founded in January 2005. The Center hosts workshops for teachers and pre-service teachers; a Super Saturday math and science program for children ages preschool to fifth grade (three sessions twice per year).

For behavior and classroom management, you might want to look into the books by Harry Wong called the First Day of School. It has a lot of good tips in it.

I think that Betty makes a good point, that as a new teacher you cannot do it all at once. It will take time. I think Harry Wong's book First Day of School is a good one to learn organization for teachers, bot new and experienced.

Holly I would look into what Legos has to offer. I would also look into NASA Explorer Schools and its website. They have a lot of good resources. Jim McDonald
