I actually just taught food chains to my third grade classroom not too long ago. I used the BrainPOP video as well. I definitely agree. There is only 45 minutes each day devoted science, and social studies just gets woven into reading. I am currently student teaching in 3rd grade and my students will not take a standardized state test that covers science until they're in 5th grade.
