Hi there Katelyn! I am currently student teaching in a third grade classroom. We do not have a set time for science instruction which means all science lessons we teach have to be integrated with either language arts or math. One thing that I like to do is have my students read non-fiction texts and answer questions about the text. I also plan scientific inquiries that require my students to d...

Hi Mia! I find myself asking the same quesiton, especially at my current field placement in a third grade classroom. We do not have much time to devote to science, since most of our instructional time is devoted to language arts and math. One way that I have found to make my students interested in learning about and engaging with science is by making the science relevant to thier lives. If ...

Hello Hannah! I think getting students outside to experience science is extremely important and I love that you are interested in it. One thing I did at a local school with fifth grade students was take them outside and ask them to make observations about how organisms in the ecosystem were interacting. One thing that I loved about this activity is that it can be conducted in any ecosystem....

4 Resources and Human Impact
The resources contained within this collection are very useful. The reason that I did not give this a collection a 5 star rating is because there were not more interactive activities to complete with students. The first resource in this collection contained an investigation that would be interactive for students. The third resource also contained another investigation. The rest of the resources in the collection are somewhat lengthy chapters. If I were going to use these chapters with my third graders I would definitely have to read the chapters aloud to my students. The interactive eBook is a useful tool to use with all students. Overall, this collection of materials is helpful can be useful for educators who want to teach about resources and human impact.

5 Heredity and Variation
This collection is chalked full of useful resources for teaching about heredity and variation of traits in elementary school classrooms. One thing I like about this collection is that it contains an interactive eBook. This collection also contains web pages and book chapters. One resource that I feel is useful is the NSTA Daily Do that connects to the crosscutting concept of structure and function. This Daily Do contains a parent guide that makes it easy for parents to help their children see themselves as scientists. The final resource in the collection is a game that allows students to learn about evolution through playing the game of telephone. As a classroom teacher in training I know that students love anything that can make learning like a game. I highly recommend this resource for my fellow elementary classroom teachers.

5 Interacting with Rocks
This collection of resources contains great tools to be used in elementary classrooms. These resources follow the 5E learning cycle (engage, explore, explain, elaborate, evaluate). One of these resources even integrates poetry with science. I also think it is great that this collection contains an interactive eBook. I would recommend using this collection of resources to make learning about rocks interactive.
