I'm Kylar Merrell, a junior elementary education major at East Central University. I grew up in Camp Zama, Japan, a US Army base, where I graduated high school, and after two years of going to college at ULM in Monroe, Louisiana, I'm here at ECU. I love to paint and draw, and I'm afraid of birds.

Like others have said, I think it's most important to involve the students at all. Give them something to do, something to play with, or something to build. If they are doing something hands on, then they will be more involved. It also doesn't hurt to make the topic relatable to the students so that they have some interest in the material so that they know how it can apply to them

I'm a future elementary teacher as well, and from what I know, the best way to engage your students is to relate it to things in their lives. For instance, find something that your students are interested in and explain the science behind that. Also make sure that your students see themselves in the curriculum.
