The Phases of the moon and why they happen . The moon has 9 Phases New moon, Waxing Crescent ,First Quarter ,Waxing Gibbous, Full Moon, Waning Gibbous, Last Quarter, Waning crescent, and New moon. The moon revolves around the Earth once every 29days.One half of the moon is always illuminated by the sun but on Earth we can't always see the half of the moon that's lit up. The Phases of the moon represent the different fractions of the moon's lighted half that we can see as the moon is on Earth.
