The Universe
This short course explored the ways scientists learn about the universe and the
current ideas about the origins and formation of the universe. The course also addressed
how the universe was formed, formation and destruction of stars, and characteristics
of the Sun and stars in terms of size and composition. Participants gained access
to NASA resources and discovered strategies for implementing inquiry-based instruction
models. The instructor guided participants through easy-to-understand explanations
and facilitated discussions that enhanced teacher knowledge of key concepts. Participants
contributed to asynchronous weekly discussions and completed suggested reading assignments
from NSTA's Universe SciPack, journal articles, and online NASA resources.
