Jim O’Leary
Jim O’Leary Senior Scientist, Maryland Science Center

Serving the Maryland Science Center (MSC) in numerous functions for more than 30 years, Mr. O’Leary is responsible for the planning, production and presentation of programs in MSC’s Davis Planetarium and the Crosby Ramsey Memorial Observatory and is MSC liaison to large-format (IMAX) film producers and distributors. He has produced dozens of programs for the Davis Planetarium, seven of which have played in more than 650 planetariums worldwide.

Under his direction, the Maryland Science Center's IMAX Theater was converted to IMAX 3D projection technology and completely renovated in 2000. He also led the design for MSC’s innovative SpaceLink gallery, a space science update center, which served as the model for similar installations at museums in Boston, Chicago and Denver, as well as the model for MSC’s TerraLink and BodyLink galleries.

Mr. O’Leary is a frequent lecturer on topics of Earth and space science to both adults and children, and a familiar face and voice on TV and radio, where he is often called upon to interpret space science and astronomy. Since 2001 he has hosted the weekly Skywatch radio program on the local NPR affiliate, introducing listeners to the latest space science and astronomy news.

O’Leary serves as Vice President for Production for the Museum Film Network, on the Professional Development Committee of the Giant Screen Cinema Association, and is a Fellow of the International Planetarium Society.

Grant Bowers
Grant Bowers Program Coordinator, Monarchs in the Classroom University of Minnesota

Mr. Bowers has been working in the Monarch Lab since the summer of 2005. For three years as an undergraduate research assistant, Mr. Bowers helped graduate students with their research and maintained the lab until he graduated in May of 2008. After graduation, he became the Program Coordinator for Monarchs in the Classroom. Grant is excited to have the opportunity to work with teachers and provide the tools they need to teach science, inquiry, and conservation biology.
