Weather and Climate: Satellite Meteorology

In this web seminar participants learned strategies for using satellite data from NASA's Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellites (GOES) and Polar Operational Environmental Satellites (POES) missions in their meteorology lessons. Participating educators were introduced to websites containing authentic GOES and POES data and imagery files. They then discovered how to download and use the files with students.

This web seminar is part of a series of electronic professional development experiences sponsored by the NASA Explorer Schools (NES) project. NES is NASA's classroom-based gateway for middle school (grades 4-8) and high school (grades 9-12) classrooms providing authentic learning experiences inspired by NASA's unique missions. NES provides free teaching and learning resources that promote student engagement in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, and opportunities for teachers and students to participate in NASA's mission of research and discovery through inquiry-based experiences directly related to the work of NASA scientists and engineers.
