Using the Learning Center as Your e-Textbook with Preservice Teachers

This web seminar took place on December 10, 2013, from 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. eastern standard time. The presenters were Al Byers, Acting Associate Executive Director of Services at NSTA, and Flavio Mendez, Senior Director of the NSTA Learning Center. A panel of university professors included Ruth Burkett from University of Central Missouri; Wendy Ruchti from Idaho State University; and Kathy Sparrow from Florida International University.

Dr. Byers began the presentation by talking about the research behind a blended model of professional learning that combines face-to-face events with online experiences. Mr. Mendez gave an overview of the NSTA Learning Center and described how it can be used as an e-Textbook at the college and university level. He shared examples of successful application in preservice teacher classrooms then invited the panelists to share their own experiences using the Learning Center with their students. The panelists also answered questions from the audience.
