View the series

This Web Seminar took place on October 25, 2012 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time. The presenter was Flavio Mendez, Senior Director, NSTA Learning Center. In this seminar, Mr. Mendez introduced participants to the over 3,400 resources that are available for free in the Learning Center.

The PowerPoint, related resources from the NSTA Learning Center, and web links from the presentation are now contained in the above resource collection. Clicking on the collection link will place it in your Learning Center, My Library, neatly organized under the My Resource Collections tab.

During this web seminar, Mr. Mendez gave an overview of the NSTA Learning Center and discussed the role it can play in a blended model of teacher professional learning. He shared examples of the Learning Center’s free resources, including interactive content modules called Science Objects. Participants tried out several simulations from different Science Objects. They also had a chance to visit the Learning Center and begin adding resources to their libraries to access later. Mr. Mendez also talked about the Learning Center online advisors, who are available to help via live chat, and he described how to earn activity points and badges for all of the professional learning activities in the Learning Center.

Seminar participants received one of the NSTA SciGuides. A certificate of attendance was deposited into participants' My PD Record and Certificates area in the NSTA Learning Center for completing the evaluation form at the end of the program.

Here are some comments provided by the participants at the end of the Web Seminar:

  • “I learned so many tools to help me refresh my content knowledge and great stuff to use in the classroom. And most of it is FREE!”
  • “This was a great refresher for me about the Learning Center. I am going to be a more active participant in the future. Thanks!”
  • “I was very surprised that there is so much to NSTA. I now plan on becoming a member and using the information in my classes.”
  • “I really enjoyed the interactive modules on concepts. I have found another good resource for my lesson plans.”

Thanks to the participants and the presenter for the learning opportunity, the interactions, and a job well done!
