Teaching Nutrition Science and the Food Label

During this half-day Symposium, experts and educators from FDA explained the basics of nutrition science, nutrition-related health trends in the U.S., and the scientific basis for the percentage daily values (%DV) on the Nutrition Facts Label. FDA scientists and master educators led inquiry-oriented and hands-on activities that can be used in the classroom to teach several of the National Science Education Standards, including those for Science in Personal Health and Social Perspectives. Each participant received a notebook and CD of teaching resources and a stipend of $60 from FDA.
