Penguins! This month’s Teaching Through Trade Books column celebrates those tuxedo-clad birds that have come to symbolize winter and provides students with the opportunity to investigate adaptations that help penguins survive in their environment. Activities for grades K-3 and 4-6 are suggested.

These two trade books focus on how penguins are adapted to their environment. The author presents activities that tie in with the themes of the two books that are appropriate for the grade levels discussed and rather clever ways to demonstrate that is it not easy to balance eggs on feet or to keep warm.
