This column focuses on promoting learning through assessment. This month’s issue discusses using visual representations to support students' explanations.
Page Keeley's article based on one of her formative assessments "Birthday Candles" takes her probes another step further. Besides just having students answer a probe, she suggests having them draw an explanation of their reasons for their written answer to the probe. This visualization can take teachers a step further into understanding a student's thought process. Page's ability to understand children's minds is amazing.
