This column focuses on promoting learning through assessment. This month’s issue covers the concept of the role of weathering in shaping the features of mountains.
Page Keeley shares how to review your students ideas about drawings of mountains to find the commonalities in reasoning so that you can share these back with them. This will elicit discussions about why they think the way they do and uncover their understanding. IE Mountain which are tall and jaggy are older...why might they think this is true? These commonalities can be shared in teachers professional development communities to further discuss student thinking and ways to approach instructional strategies.
