This article discusses several simple activities to do with leaves. It is a great idea for fall as the leaves are easy for small children to gather. The lesson plan gives several ideas involving the study of patterns (a concept from NGSS).

I feel like the ideas in the article that I read are pretty good ones that I should use with my future students. For example one idea talked about how students love to take nature walks to collect things for a school project. Some of the things that I could have my students collect include leaves and bugs. When we come back to the classroom after the nature walk, I would have my students look at the objects that they have gathered and see if there is anyway to group them by size, color, or shape.
