This article provides practical methods for optimizing Engineering Design Challengs. For example, ways to test challenges prior to students doing them gives teachers insight into what to expect when students do them. Methods for safety procedures are given which is important for keeping all participants safe. I would, keep, this article on hand for my school’s staff becoming we just opened our new science lab, and it’ll be imporformteachers to keep these methods in mind for doing challenges in the lab or outdoors.

As a preservice teacher about to start planning fifth grade science lessons, this article was fantastic! This article broke down seven really important ideas that teachers should keep in mind when planning and preparing to teach science. Before reading this article, I was feeling pretty lost about where to begin. Having these seven recommendations to refer to will definitely come in handy. My lesson is going to be about Native Americans and engineering design so optimization 6 was especially important to me because activating background knowledge will be important to situate the engineering project!
