This column enhances the repertoire of preservice and inservice teachers. This article discusses a preservice curriculum with an emphasis on inquiry, utilization of local science resources, and exposure to a plethora of teaching techniques through application to course readings and activities.

The article discusses ways the authors have decided to teach preservice teachers elementary science lesson planning. The authors promote a growth mindset within the children and encourage preservice teachers to understand the 5E model (Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, and Evaluate). The 5E model helps students to question their science lesson and delve deeper into the topic. The 5E model allows students to ask and grow, but it won't be effective unless the teachers believe in a growth mindset. Teachers must believe that all students can improve upon their comprehension of academia and cultivate that belief within their students as well. While this is an article about how to educate preservice teachers, I believe preservice teachers (like myself) will find this article helpful. The article solidified my ideas that students must be further encouraged to promote growth within their academics; especially in a generally difficult subject like science. As educators, we must be ready to tap into a student's potential at any moment.
