Initially, the main purpose of the science study group was to make science teaching and learning more exciting and available. This goal has been accomplished. The continuing goal is to maintain the excitement—members thinking and doing science, and most of all students benefiting.

The study group discussed in this article is one designed for elementary teachers. The meetings were scheduled once a month. The benefit for the teachers was that each meeting provided them with one lesson they could take back and use in their classroom. As a result of positive feedback the group has existed for four years and more teachers as well as administrators have joined the group each month. There is a sample of a science study group meeting presented in the article.
