This article is not just about a specific poster that was available from NASA. This article explains how a poster can lead to focusing on a particular concept, career, historical even, and more. This article focuses on a women astronaut in a poster about working in space. For the girls of a middle school afterschool club that includes understanding of science, history and society. It also provided some simple activities. Wall charts are very visual eye candy and often there is so much room stimulation with too many posters that these wonderful tools are often overlooked. This article should spark interest in using wall posters to increase not only language arts skills but to start deeper discussions in a classroom.

This article highlights types of posters that are made available to educators through NASA. An example of an instructional activity (that can be found on the reverse side of the sample poster) helps teachers to see one possible way to incorporate a poster into a science lesson. The wall charts or posters that are highlighted in this article are free. You can pick them up at any local NASA Research Center, order copies through NASA’s Central Operation of Resources for Educators (CORE), or download electronic versions at NASA’s Spacelink. This NASA site is particularly helpful. It contains several teaching resources by category (including posters):
