Idea Bank: "Seeing" the Lightby: Jim Nelson

Journal ArticleDigital resources are stored online in your NSTA Library.

The Idea Bank provides tips and techniques for creative teaching, in about 1,000 words. In this month’s Idea Bank, students begin the physics class by studying the behavior of light. In this activity, the teacher pretends to be a member of the blind society who has never seen light or met anyone who has. The students must answer the question, "What is light?" This simple activity quickly engages students and serves as a great introduction to the study of physics.
