Presented in this article is a 5E lesson cycle dealing with hydroponics and plant sustainability for a possible mission on a spaceflight and colonization on another planet. As the author points out it can be modified to any grade level but the one in the article is for high school students. Setting up a hydroponics garden is a must. This lesson provides extensions to other areas such as environmental science.

Well thought out, easy to implement lesson on sustainable agriculture. This lesson could easily be connected to a discussion of food web, human environmental impacts or social justice issues in food supply. Love it!
