There is growing evidence that teacher leaders and principals are indeed effecting-and perhaps-essential allies in leading schoolwide improvement in teacher effectiveness and student learning. This chapter opens with a detailed look at the empirical and theoretical literature on models of teacher leadership as part of the solution to the demands of principalship. Next, the chapter explores three core values central to the work of principals interested in getting positive results from teacher leadership and the implications for science teaching and learning in particular.
